Therapy for Medical Conditions

Specializing in cancer, chronic illness, & other diagnoses

A medical diagnosis can change everything you thought you knew about life.

In a single moment, everything changes. You may have been in shock for a while, having gone right into survival mode: making decisions, following instructions, going from appointment to appointment.

For many, it’s only when the busyness dies down—the chemotherapy ends, the regular treatments spread out—that they have a chance to process what they’ve gone through. You may be hearing things like:

“You’ve finished treatment, you should be good now”

“You’re so strong”

“You’re the lucky one”

Except that you don’t feel especially strong or particularly lucky. You actually feel anxious, unsure, and like you’ve lost a sense of control. You may no longer be actively “fighting,” but the waiting now feels somehow harder than the treatment ever did.

The fact is:

Survivorship begins the day you’re diagnosed, and it never truly ends.

how we can help

We’re here with understanding and support on this life-long journey.

Our team recognizes the unique ways a medical diagnosis changes you: the way you see yourself, the way you exist in relationships, and the way you feel about the future.

First and foremost, this is a place where you can show up and be your true, authentic self. You don’t need to sugarcoat how you’re feeling and you won’t be met with empty platitudes. We want to offer you space to process the ways your diagnosis has impacted you and work together to instill confidence and trust in yourself and your body.

In the case of remission or acute illness, we also understand that you’re often expected to be “over” it when the disease is deemed “over” by a medical team. Even those well-meaning people in your life don’t seem to realize that some of the hardest parts of this journey aren’t related to the diagnosis, but the aftermath: figuring out who you are now, because this has changed you forever.

The staff at Blue Note has both lived and professional experience in cancer and other medical diagnoses. With us, you’ll receive highly ethical, competent, and research-informed care every step of the way.

1

Normalize

There are so many nuances to receiving, treating, and living with a medical condition that simply are not talked about. We want you to know that you’re not alone in what you’re feeling and offer a place where you can freely express it. All of it is welcome here!

2

Understand

When everything is so focused on your physical health, often emotional, mental, spiritual, and relational health can be ignored. Our team will be there to shine a light on these areas and invest in them, just as you have invested in your physical wellbeing.

3

Support

Our experience with cancer & medical diagnoses means we have both research-informed methods and practical advice to help you process the impacts of your journey as a patient, make peace with your body, and even coordinate care with other professionals on your medical team.

Peace: It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.
