Jocelyn Chamra-Barrera
Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Se habla Espanol.
It’s okay to feel the way you’re feeling right now.
Grief and loss are highly stigmatized experiences in our society, with people expecting it to look or feel a very specific way. I want you to know that however you’re feeling—no matter how long it’s been—is okay.
Sometimes loss is the death of a loved one. Other times, however, it’s the loss of your country, your sense of safety, your health, your plans for a family, or another important pillar of your life. All of these can result in grief and therefore deserve support and attention as you move through it.
I work with both adolescents and adults to process their grief and identify ways they can grow from their experiences, recognizing that your phase of life can contribute to how grief shows up in it. Teens may be testing boundaries or experimenting with dangerous behaviors or wrestling with larger questions and how to go about “normal life” when such a significant event has occurred. Adults often notice changes in their relationships, feeling impatient or disconnected from those around them, or feeling like their personality has changed.
I’m not here to be another voice telling you that “I know how you feel” or “I completely understand.” I don’t. Your experience is unique. In therapy, that experience will be honored and I will meet you right where you’re at to regain your footing and support you on this journey.
My career has been spent supporting clients of all ages and their families. After working as a Clinical Intake Specialist and Parent Child Intervention Counselor with the Center for Child Protection, I spent 2 years at the Austin Center for Grief and Loss providing individual therapy to children, adolescents, and adults experiencing grief, loss, and trauma. I continue to serve as the Director of Programs and Clinical Services at the Christi Center, an organization dedicated to those navigating grief due to death losses.
I provide therapy services in both English and Spanish.
Jocelyn’s fee starts at $150/individual session and $165/couple or family session
